Blood Donor Program
It’s not something most people consider, but pets can need blood transfusions just like we do. Emergencies and conditions such as trauma, rat bait poisoning, immune disorders, cancer, and snake bites can all lead to dangerous blood loss. When that happens, one generous donation can be enough to save the lives of up to three critically ill animals.
If your pet qualifies, we’ll add them to our blood donor register so they can help save lives — and they’ll be rewarded along the way with:
- A $50 voucher as store credit for each donation
- A full physical examination and health report
- A free blood screen
Every potential donor goes through careful, non-invasive health screening so we can be sure they’re fit to give blood and won’t be affected by it. For a lot of pets, it’s the most thorough health check they’ve ever had — real peace of mind for you while they do something wonderful for another animal.
Donations are kept at least three months apart. On the day, your pet is given a light anaesthetic and placed on IV fluids for a smooth, safe recovery, and the whole thing wraps up in under 15 minutes.
Canine Donor Criteria
- Has a calm, friendly temperament
- Is aged between 1 and 8 years
- Weighs over 25kg
- Is current with all vaccinations, tick prevention & heartworm medication
- Is in good health, with no serious illnesses or ongoing medications
- Has never had a blood transfusion before
